After seeing that the compost project was well underway I wanted to see what further steps could be made.
Omer Guy, Eliahu Haviv and myself visited both Sede Eliahu [ the first kibbutz in this area to begin recycling]
Today the project is run by Nachman Bernstein.
We also visited Ein Harod Ichud where the recycling project is run by the very dynamic Nadav Raz.
The main problem is to find a "final source" for the material collected.
Today the only materials we can collect and then dispose of are plastic bottles - they are collected by the Aviv company
and newspapers and cartons which we use either for mulching or we grind them up for mulching material.
This year we granted a special budget of 2500 Shekels - although not enough to purchase the containers we had wanted [at a cost of 31,000 Shekels] we were able to build a network of containers that allows us to collect both newspapers and plastic bottles.
